UNION HOSPITAL RADIATION ONCOLOGY
Hux Cancer Center Facts
- Hux Cancer Center is conveniently attached to Union Hospital. Is it the only comprehensive cancer treatment facility in the Wabash Valley.
- Union Hospital has been continously accredited by the American College of Surgeons since 1967. This means that our program has met stringent national standards for cancer diagnosis and treatment. The Union Hospital Cancer Program includes the longest continuously active tumor registry in the Wabash Valley; our tumor registry is linked to the Indiana State Board of Health Tumor Registry.
- Hux Cancer Center at Union Hospital is one of approximately 150 practices accredited in radiation therapy by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This accreditation distinguishes our program by recognizing that our quality of care meets or exceeds the prevailing national standards for cancer treatment.
- The main components of the Cancer Center are the Inpatient Oncology Unit on the 2nd floor of Union Hospital and the Radiation Oncology facility at Union Hospital. We work closely with the medical oncology facility of the AP&S Northside Clinic, located across the street from the Union Hospital, and the oncologists of the Providence Medical Group and the Hope Center. The Cancer Center brings together oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, physicists, pharmacists, psychologists, dieticians, chaplains, alternative medicine specialists and others to form a team to provide complete care for cancer patients in the Wabash Valley.
- The AP&S medical oncologists and the radiation oncologists participate in clinical trials sponsored by the Hoosier Oncology Group, the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group and several nationally recognized pharmaceutical investigational bodies.
- Through close ties with the Clarian Health System in Indianapolis, patients who have special needs that cannot be addressed by the Hux Cancer Center can be readily referred for continuing care at the Indiana University Medical Center or Methodist Hospital.
