Prenatal & Parenting Classes

Union Hospital offers many educational programs designed to help families expecting the birth of a baby. Each class combines professional instruction and support to help you make choices as you prepare for childbirth and parenting. Classes are provided by expert childbirth educators for a nominal fee. When registering for classes, please let us know of any financial need, because scholarships are available. For more information, including class dates and times, call (812) 478-4137.

Minimum enrollment of 8 families needed to conduct class.

Prepared Childbirth
This popular series of six classes offers couples professional instruction and guidance to enhance preparations for the childbirth experience. The classes focus on relaxation/breathing techniques for better concentration during labor and delivery. You also will learn the role of the labor partner, discuss routine hospital procedures, receive information on birth options and medications for labor, newborn care, and a tour of the maternity unit. Offered each month - $40 per family.

Big Brother/Big Sister Class
If you have children three to 10 years old, this special class can help prepare them for the arrival of a new baby. Big brothers and big sisters tour the area where mothers and babies stay and participatein several activities that help ease fears and questions about their mothers hospital stay. Offered each month - $10 per family.

Breast-Feeding Your Baby

This class offers new and expectant parents information, support and instruction on breast-feeding. Nursing infants are welcome. Also discussed will be the types and use of breast pumps and the collection and storage of breast milk.
