printUNION HOSPITAL MATERNITY SERVICES

Amenities

Meals

The menu for each meal is selected by the hospital dietitians to provide you with nutritional needs required for a new mother. If you have any special dietary preferences or restrictions, please let us know. Trays arrive near these times:

Breakfast 8 a.m.
Lunch 12-12:30 p.m.
Dinner 5-5:30 p.m.

Call Button

The nurse call and TV button are on both sides of the bed rail or on a hand control. You have a personal telephone: for local calls, dial 9 before the number. Long distance calls require a calling card or collect call; ask the operator for assistance. Because cell phones can interfere with vital medical equipment, cell phones should be used outside. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Emotional and Spiritual Support

If you wish to speak with a Chaplain, ask your nurse to contact one for you. The hospital chapel, located next to the cafeteria on the lower level, is open 24 hours a day.

Sleeping Arrangements

Depending on the number of patients on the unit, you may or may not have a roommate. If you have a room to yourself, then you are welcome to have someone stay in the room overnight with you. (If this is not the person who has the second infant identification band, the person needs to obtain an overnight pass at the patient registration desk.) Having someone spend the night is based on patient census, so please check with the nurse first to see if this is possible.

Please note: To decrease your risk of infection, no one but you and your baby should be in your bed.

Linen

Your nurse will change your sheets whenever they are dirty. Sometimes you might notice your sheets are dirty before we do, please tell your nurse or assistant.
