BEHAVIORAL HEALTH FOR HUX CANCER CENTER

You are not alone ...

Having cancer is a stressful experience and can lead to many normal feelings, including sadness, worry or distress. Your doctors want to provide you with the best care for your body, mind and spirit.

Clinical psychologist Lindsay T. Fazio, Ph.D, HSPP, helps people adjust to difficult experiences, and she is available to help people learn different ways of coping, and to offer patients and their families compassion, support and hope as they deal with this disease.

Getting help from a psychologist is like getting a tune-up. The car is not broken but could use some help with parts that keep it from running at full speed. Stress can cause such a problem. In fact, some studies show that feeling stressed is far more common than not feeling any worry, sadness or fear when facing something like cancer treatment. This may be true for you and your family too. It is also normal to feel better knowing you are not facing cancer alone.

Dr. Fazio can work with you and your family by offering

  • Support in coping with the stress of cancer
  • Problem-solving to get through treatment
  • Help to process feelings about having cancer
  • Ways to reduce worry or anxiety
  • Assistance for families who have a loved on with cancer
  • Tools to help you remember what doctors say
  • Ways to increase factors we know help fight cancer such as hope, humor, faith and joy
  • Grief counseling
