Ultrasound Definitions Gallbladder: Fat free supper the night before the exam and nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes Kidneys/Renal: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes Pelvis: Patient should drink 32 oz. of liquid (water, tea, juice) 1 hour prior to the exam. Do not empty your bladder. The exam last approximately 30 minutes. Liver: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exam last approximately 30 minutes. Breast: There is no prep to follow for this exam. Exam last approximately 30 minutes. Thyroid: There is no prep to follow for this exam. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes. Pancreas/Spleen: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes. Aorta: Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes. OB/Fetal Patient should drink 32 oz. liquid (water, tea, juice) 1 hour prior to exam. Do not empty bladder. The exam lasts approximately 30 minutes. Our policy does not allow for the videotaping of OB ultrasounds, however, we are happy to provide you with a few photos for you to keep at no charge.
