UNION HOSPITAL CLINTON- IMAGING SERVICES
Cardiovascular Testing
Union Hospital Clinton's Cardiovascular Testing encompasses treadmill, echo, and vascular exams. We perform diagnostic exams for patients ranging from neonatal to a geriatric level. The vascular services we provide are:
Venous Imaging
-upper extremity
-lower extremity
Veins are examined with ultrasound that allows us to look inside the veins and listen to the blood flow. The main indication for these examinations is to rule out blood clots and identify the cause of varicose veins and ulcers on the legs.
The patient will be lying down and comfortable. The venous exams are painless and last approx. 15-30 minutes.
Arterial Imaging
-upper extremity
-lower extremity
-PVR (pulse volume recording)
Arteries are examined with ultrasound that allows us to look inside the arteries as well as listen to the blood flow. Blood pressures may be taken in the arms and legs to assess adequate blood flow in the extremities. The main indication for these exams is to rule out blockage in the arteries and look for abnormalities like aneurysms.
The patient will be lying down and comfortable. The arterial exams are painless and last approx. 30-45 minutes.
Carotid Duplex Imaging
These services are available on an outpatient basis as well as those who are inpatients and emergency room status.
Cardiovascular Testing is staffed Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The department is closed on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Technicians are on call for emergency or stat situations after hours until 8:30 p.m., seven days a week.
Routine procedures are performed in a dark, quiet exam room. We also provide the same services bedside for those patients that are unable to travel in the hospital, i.e. intensive care unit patients.
All of our examinations are interpreted by our highly qualified physicians who specialize in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or vascular surgery.
Our staff consists of eight expertly trained technicians who aide the physicians in providing the best care possible to our customers. The laboratory is accredited through ICAVL (International Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories) which maintains very high standards.

The carotid arteries in your neck are examined with ultrasound that allows us to look inside the arteries as well as listen to the blood flow. Indications for this test are symptoms that are consistent with a stroke or mini-stroke (TIA). Some of those symptoms are sudden visual changes, dizziness, and weakness or numbness on one side of the body.
This exam will identify any abnormal build-up in the carotid artery which would cause decreased blood flow to the brain.
The patient will be lying down and comfortable. The carotid artery exam is painless and lasts approx. 15-30 minutes.
The echo (cardiac ultrasound) services we provide are:
- Echocardiogram
- Neonatal Echocardiogram
- Stress Echocardiogram
These services are available on an outpatient basis as well as those who are inpatients and emergency room status.
The cardiac ultrasound department is staffed Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The department is closed on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
