UNION HOSPITAL PATIENT/VISITOR INFORMATION
For Safety's Sake
Patient Safety and Satisfaction is Job #1 at Union Hospital. Here are some simple ways that you can help keep yourself safe:
Avoid Falls
- Do not attempt to raise or lower the bed rails or lean too far out of your bed. Call for assistance when you need it.
- Wear bedroom slippers with skid-resistant soles when you get out of bed.
- Do not walk on wet floors.
- Ask for assistance when getting into and out of wheelchairs.
- If your physician says it's okay to get out of bed, sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before starting to walk.
Medications
Your doctor will order whatever medication you need while you are here from the hospital pharmacy. Do not take medications brought from home unless instructed to do so by your nurse. It is very important to tell your nurse the names of all medications you are taking. Be sure your nurse checks your ID band before giving you medication. If you believe you've been given the wrong medication, please ask your nurse to double-check the order.
Fire Safety
Union Hospital conducts monthly fire drills in various patient care areas. If a drill is conducted in your area, please follow all instructions.
Your Belongings and Valuables
- Your valuables should be sent home. Until you can make these arrangements, valuables may be stored in the hospital safe.
- Be sure to check your room before you leave to insure no belongings are left behind.
- Safety codes do not allow patients/visitors to bring appliances into the hospital.
- Items such as hair dryers and electric shavers much be inspected by Union Hospital Environmental Services to be sure the item meets safety codes. Ask your nurse to call Environment Services.
- Weapons are not permitted on Union Hospital property.
- Union Hospital is not responsible for breakage or loss of any personal belongings. Please pay special attention to your personal items.
