Rehabilitation Nursing
Rehabilitation nursing is a specialty that focuses on the skills and knowledge needed to care for people with participation restrictions and activity limitations. The nursing staff also provides the skilled care required to handle medical situations. The emphasis is on the prevention of medical complications, and on health maintenance in order to maximize each patient's abilities and potential for self-care. The nurse, as the primary teacher, is responsible for sharing his/her knowledge with you and your family, so that old skills are reinforced and new skills are learned.
A primary nurse is assigned to you on admission and will be working with you, your family, and all members of the rehabilitation team to prepare you for discharge. Your primary nurse will be responsible for coordinating your nursing care and teaching the actual "hands-on" activities that you and your family will need when you go home. This provides you and your family with an intensive program of teaching, learning and supervised practice.
