Open Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Union Hospital Health Group is proud to announce the opening of the first and only High Field Open MRI System in our region.

The Panorama 1.0T High Field Open MRI from Philips Healthcare Solutions will be available to patients at our Thomas Plaza Imaging Center location at 5500 US Highway 41 S. Terre Haute beginning March 24, 2008.

Other open MRI Scanners in the area are classified as Low Field resulting in the Panorama being the only High Field Open MRI within 75 miles of Terre Haute. Low Magnetic field strength magnets are unable compare to the advanced technology of the Panorama High Field Open MRI.

The Panorama High Field Open MRI, is the most advanced open MRI system available.

What this means to our patients is wide open comfort. The benefits start with three times more space than what a patient would experience in a cylindrical MRI system. This enhances patient comfort and claustrophobia is greatly reduced. In addition to this benefit, the expansive opening also allows for easy visual contact between the patient and the operator. Weight is also no longer a problem - the Panorama Open MRI can accommodate patients weighing up to 550 lbs.

Advanced High Field Open technology allows for improved image quality and faster exam times while the patient can enjoy the comfort of an open system. In fact, MR scanning is one of the most powerful tools physicians have available to make an accurate diagnosis and select an appropriate treatment for you.
