THE
HUX CARDIOVASCULAR CENTER AT UNION HOSPITAL
Research
SF-36 Research:
Union Hospital participates in this statewide database used to ensure
quality care for cardiac rehabilitation patients. Patients are evaluated
prior to starting cardiac rehabilitation by a questionaire and a six
minute walk. This is repeated at the end of the program. Comparison
of the two results shows how patients' emotional and physical health improve
following rehabilitation. This is then compared statewide to show how
well our program is doing.
Pacemaker Lead Research:
Union Hospital participates in research studies to improve cardiac care.
One example is the CARF study with Guidant Corporation in regards to
their blended sensors for pacemakers. These pacemaker leads were trialed
on our patients after obtaining their consent. After the leads were
implanted, participating patients reported to two follow-up appointments
which included questionnaires and walks. The information gathered was
tallied and sent to Guidant.
