Staff
and Patient Education
- Clinical Ladder Program. For Union Hospital, the Division of
Patient Care Services has developed a Clinical Ladder Program,
a system of progression that rewards nurses for excellence in
clinical performance. It allows you to remain at the bedside,
in addition to choosing which functional area (clinical, management
or educational) you find most interesting.
- Continuing Education. Both Union Hospital and Indiana State
University are involved in developing continuing education programs
for UHHG nurses. These programs, ranging from one-day workshops
to more extensive courses, involve training in clinical procedure,
nursing management, nursing theory and human relations.
- Formal Education. If you have an Associate Degree or Nursing
Diploma, you may choose to advance your career by studying for
an advanced degree. Union Hospital Health Group offers an extensive
tuition reimbursement program for ongoing education through a
number of colleges and universities in the area. Indiana State
University, located in Terre Haute, offers a B.S. and an M.S.
in Nursing.
- Education Station Video Library. Union Hospital and West Central
Community Hospital provide a video library that addresses a variety
of educational topics. These include disease/symptom specific
content, professional development and continuing education copies.
- Computer-Based Training. Interactive, technology-based learning
provides the opportunity for staff to complete various education
offerings. Computers are readily available in the clinical areas
to encourage lifelong learning.
- Professional Organizations. Professional organizations active
in the area include the Indiana State Nurses Association, Association
of Operating Room Nurses, National Association of American College
of Obstetrics and Gynecology and National League for Nursing.
