Union Hospital Clinton Plans Service Changes
Union Hospital Clinton recently announced several changes as part of its continued commitment to meet the health care needs of the community. Therefore, by the end of November 2009, UHC will no longer deliver babies. All staff in that department were offered positions in other nursing departments at the hospital.
BackLike many other small hospitals, the number of births at UHC has decreased despite visiting specialty physician clinics and the continued support of Dr. John Stevens. While the number of births has declined, the outpatient testing side of obstetric care has grown. Therefore, UHC will continue all outpatient services such as ultrasounds and non-stress tests. UHC will also continue childbirth education classes while partnering with Union Hospital in Terre Haute for deliveries. While local births have been down, UHC has experienced an increased demand in the community for Special Care Unit (SCU) beds and Emergency Department rooms. The addition of leading-edge technology such as the telemedicine program, the hospitalist program and the Advanced Intensive Care Unit has contributed to steady increases in volumes. Therefore, the current OB department will be remodeled to become a three-bed SCU with a fourth bed available for overflow patients. The current two SCU beds will be incorporated into the Emergency Department full time to further add capacity "Union Hospital Clinton is committed to its patients and the community it serves," said UHC Administrator Terri Hill. "That's why we are refocusing our efforts to grow those areas where we can continue to support the health care needs in our community." |
