Dr. Biggs Named Lugar Center Executive Director

TERRE HAUTE — Dr. Joe Biggs is a licensed psychologist and Health Service Provider in Psychology in Indiana.

He was the Behavioral Science Coordinator for the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency from 2004 until January 2010. In that role, he directed the training of 21 family medicine residents in interpersonal, communication, cultural competency, diagnostic, and intervention skills.

For the past 21 years, he has served the psychological needs of patients in the practice areas of rural community mental health, oncology, cardiology, and rehabilitation medicine. He has been an adjunct faculty member in counseling and clinical psychology at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana and has supervised doctoral students in psychology training in primary care medical settings located in Terre Haute and surrounding rural areas.

He is the designated Rural Health Coordinator for the Indiana Psychological Association, working with the American Psychological Association's Committee on Rural Health and state and local organizations to improve access to mental health services for residents of underserved rural communities. He is also a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and was recently appointed by Governor Daniels to be a member of the Indiana State Psychology Board, which is the licensing board for psychologists in Indiana.
